Meet Angélique
From the moment I was born, I wanted to ride…
Some people discover their passions over time, but for me, the love for horses was woven into my DNA from the day I was born. For as far back as I can remember, I was entirely obsessed with them. There were no other horse people in my family, I was, and still am, the only one.
Growing up, my family had a strict rule that every child had to participate in a sport. Naturally, all I wanted to do was ride, but I wasn't allowed. My mother, determined to find another outlet for my energy, made me try every sport under the rainbow. I was athletic and excelled at all of them, but without fail, after about a month, I would look at my mum and tell her the same thing: “I want to quit, and I want to ride.”
She would enrol me in something else, and the cycle would repeat. But after years of absolute perseverance, my mother finally gave in. At eight years old, I finally got into the saddle. I had proven that this wasn't a childhood phase; it was who I was.
Finding My Way to the Stable
As I grew older, my ultimate dream wasn't the racetrack, it was to become a stunt rider, fuelled by an obsession with the legendary Mario Luraschi. I was constantly searching for any doorway that would allow me to make horses my life. I even attempted to enter the prestigious Cadre Noir de Saumur, but I wasn’t working hard enough in school to secure the grades required, so that path slipped away.
But when you are meant to be around horses, life has a way of opening a door. One day, my mum and I were sorting through promotional cards from a horse magazine. She came across one, held it up, and said, "Here, look, a school where you can learn to ride, how good would that be?"
It was the card for the French Jockey School. I applied, made it through the rigorous selection criteria, and packed my bags. At just fourteen years old, I left home to study and live in Chantilly, the absolute mecca of French racing. I graduated with my diploma in horse training and management, and my path into the equestrian industry was set.
While my true passion was always simply for the horses themselves rather than the racing world, the track became my avenue to work with them at the highest level. I spent the next few years working as a trackwork rider and jump jockey in France, learning to handle the raw power, athletic capability, and heart of these incredible animals.
A Global Education
Craving broader horizons, my dedication to working with horses took me across the globe. I worked on a racing ranch in Florida, rode flat races in England, where I won my first race in the famous Newmarket precinct, and even supported horses during an intense journey on a container ship bound for Morocco. Eventually, the tides brought me to Australia, where I had the immense privilege of working for industry legends Bart Cummings and Peter Snowden.
Every horseperson knows that horses have a way of guiding our paths. When my own health signalled that it was time to step away from the high-speed intensity of the track, I pivoted. I spent a year working as a jillaroo on the Minderoo cattle station in Western Australia, grounding myself in the rugged expanse of the outback.
It was during this period of transition that I realized my next chapter wasn’t about asking more from the horse, it was about giving back to them.
The decades spent in elite stables gave me an intimate, firsthand understanding of the immense physical and mental pressure placed on performance horses. I knew what tension looked like, how it accumulated, and how it could dim a horse's natural brilliance. I wanted to find a way to offer them true relief.
The Birth of EquiAlign
This desire led me to the Masterson Method. The moment I began studying this modality, everything clicked. It wasn't just bodywork; it was a profound, spiritual dialogue.
The Masterson Method is a gentle, intuitive, and deeply collaborative practice. Instead of working on a horse, I work with them. By reading the subtlest shifts in their body language, their blinking, and their neurological responses, I am able to locate and release deep-seated structural tension. It is a soul-to-soul connection that restores balance, movement, and comfort.
Today, through EquiAlign Bodywork, I bridge the gap between elite athletic performance and deep wellness. While my racing days are behind me, I remain active in the saddle through trail and pleasure riding, with a growing interest in the endurance discipline. Although I do not own a horse of my own yet, my ultimate dream is to rescue and start a wild Australian Brumby, to build a partnership untouched by other human hand. Until then, my mission remains dedicated to bringing healing, alignment, and respect to every equine partner I have the privilege to work with.
